BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- The death on Sunday night of the actor, musician Luisito Martí has left a void in the hearts of the Cibao people. Many who knew him said that as a child he was a wonderful human being and highlighted the much talent he showed in all scenarios which he appeared.

A man who was characterized by many characters did and is regarded as an icon in the Dominican Republic.

Studies of Martí’s life are recognized him as an outstanding musician endowed with an innate talent and his challenging works and also responded to the profile of a lucky man surrounded by affection.

As a comedian for several years in television, owner of programs on the small screen is considered the greatest innate genius of the music known in the Dominican Republic.

Many testify as an exceptional genius, as so many characters and as an author who was able to show his talent to the Dominican people, not just concerning the basics of musical instruments and composition, but also his social works.

Asphalt plan continues

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- The Government, through the Ministry of Public Works, began the new year by working on the continuation of the national plan of asphalt in various sectors of the city of Santiago.

Estrella Sadhalá Avenue, passing by the crowded Ensanche Libertad, was almost entirely paved, as some jobs in the storm sewer system are in course, and when they will be concluded the asphalting will be completed.

Juan Santana, a trader of the sector, was delighted by the work being developed by the Secretariat of Public Works on the conditioning of streets of the populous neighborhood.

The repair of these streets was a claim for years those of us living here, and thank God we will not have problems because it was ugly, said Santana.

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- The Minister of State for Youth (SEJ) conducted in the largest awarding of medals to the winners Preliminary National Youth Award from the North and its 14 provinces at a ceremony to outstanding young people and authorities at the Grand Theater, Santiago de los Caballeros.

The act led by the owner of the entity, Franklin Rodriguez and Carlos Sanchez Assistant Secretary in charge of the National Youth Award began at 8:00 pm with the participation of Luis Heredia.

The award ceremony on Saturday responded to the provinces Santiago, La Vega, Duarte, Puerto Plata, Sanchez, Samaná, Espaillat, Salcedo, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago Rodriguez, Monte Cristi, Valverde and Dajabon.

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- The administrator of the State Economic Restaurants, Nicolas Calderón, said that Dominican government is distributing 140 000 daily rations to those affected by the earthquake in the neighboring nation of Haiti.

He explained that until now could be installed 14 mobile feeding units in the affected area and are are installed specifically in Metro Industrial Park.

The official said that at first, there were problems of logistics and some delay in order to enter Haiti food help prepared by President Leonel Fernández following the devastation on Tuesday by the earthquake of 7 degrees on the Richter scale.

There are many obstacles to receive help, the lawyer said Calderon.

He added that he was doing the necessary steps to install new mobile restaurants and increase the amount of daily rations are provided to the Haitian people. Calderon said the economic restaurants have been installed at the most critical points, including around the National Palace.

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- The Open University for Adults (UAPA) recognized the contributions offered by various institutions and personalities to the development of this institution. Its celebrating its 15 years of foundation as a pioneer in higher education at distance.

The founder and rector of the academy, Dr. Angel Hernandez gave honor awards to the Education Ministry, Municipality of Santiago, Colegio Sor Petra, Editora Buho and Hardware Ochoa.

Also the architect Amir Santiago Musa, for his contribution to developing the campus, Dr. Francisco Hernandez, for his outstanding teaching; the engineer Victor Hernández, for his support to infrastructure development and the lawyer Julio Álvarez for his level of collaborationand identification with the institution.

The emulated appreciated the gesture of the UAPA and the Rector, after he expressed that it’s always good to thank who contributed to your development.

The lawyer Rafael Cruz, President of the Chapter House of the Municipality of Santiago, on behalf of the Mayor Jose Enrique Sued, thanked the distinction. Griselda Carpio, representing Melanio Paredes, Minister of Education, thanked on behalf of the ministry and put that body to the provision of UAPA.

The words of thanking were delivered by Dr. Mirian Acosta, in his capacity as co-founder and Vice-Chancellor of the University and financial.

The head table consisted of Magdalena Cruz, Rafael Espinal, Angel Hernandez, Mirian Acosta and Fernando Hernandez, members of the Academic Council of the university, founded in Santiago on 14 January 1995.
