The catholic project Ciudad de la Misericordia will not affect protected areas

BREAKING NEWS: SANTIAGO. - The catholic priest Emilio Acevedo, who supports the construction of the project Ciudad de la Misericordia, said that this infrastructure which should be built in Pico Diego de Ocampo would not affect the ecosystem of this zone, as affirmed by some sectors.

The director of Vertum Caritatis Association said that the project Ciudad de la Misericordia had the support of the Secretariat of the Environment, of the archbishop of Santiago, the Ecological Society of the Cibao, the town hall of Santiago and of the population.

The religious expressed that he came to this area to be useful and that never he would support an action which would not have the legal and moral necessary regulations.

He clarified that the project Ciudad de la Misericordia, would be a pension for the elderly, the women, the children, the drug addicts, the alcoholics, the mentally ills, the cancer patients and the people in final stage, so for any person who needs a friendly hand.

He informed that the funds for the construction of the project would come from employers and from all those who want to contribute to the construction.

It will be a unique project in Dominican Republic, which will be held on the long term, ten or fifteen years for its realization, and which will be built with the working force of the community and with the participation of all those who wish to bring something, he said.

This project was questioned by various sectors of the society of Santiago, which say that this last will affect the protected area of Pico Diego de Ocampo.

Construction of a park and of a pedestrian way

BREAKING NEWS: During a forestation day in Santiago, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources declared that the project of the park and of the pedestrian way which are under construction on the Yaque River bank will be the lungs of the city.

Jaime David Fernández Mirabal explained that the park will be a space for the leisure and the recreation where everybody will be able to meet.

The civil servant incited the community, the families and the organizations to join the trees’ plantation, since each dozen trees planted allows decreasing the effect of the contamination emanating from one vehicle.

Fernández Mirabal also prevented that the people who used the way of the closed airport should find another way because this space will be intended for the walking and the sports and leisure’s activities, which are not compatible with the presence of vehicles.

The Minister specified that the two spaces will be connected in order to facilitate the movement of the families of Santiago.

The forestation day was dedicated to Magda Rodríguez, leader of the Party of the Dominican Liberation and to the communicators Anthony Marte, Atahualpa Ramírez and César Hernández.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce calls to develop the culture of export

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.-The president of the Chamber of Commerce and production of Santiago, Oliverio Espaillat Torres, requested the sectors to focus on creating a culture of export, to get more advantage of free trade agreements signed by the Dominican State.

According to him, developing and exporting culture is a path that will guide us towards the creation of quality jobs.
Torres has made these statements the opening day of the Expo Cibao 2009.

He explained that as a result of the absence of a culture export appropriated in the country, the deficit commercial increases each year.
He illustrated his propositions by referring with DR-Cafta: We present the largest trade deficit and fastest growing with the United States.

These results are proofed that, due to the absence of a culture export, we could not take full advantage with the treaties of free trade signed.
