BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- The Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago, Ivan Reynoso, expressed support of the institution to the construction project of a train for freight and passengers between Santo Domingo and Santiago, announced by the Government through the Office for the Reorganization of Traffic (Opret).

Mr. Reynoso was speaking at a meeting conducted by the Deputy Director of Opret at the headquarters of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODI) of the northern region, and which was attended by engineers, traders and businessmen of Santiago.

He explained that there was a flow of goods and passengers between the two cities, important enough to justify the project. He said the project would resume a service that already existed in the last century, and which absence has limited the development of the north area of the country.

The Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago said that large quantities of goods were shipped from this province to the east area of the country, so the port of Haina could become an important link to move these products faster and more economically.

Everything that serves to make everything cheaper is a benefit to the economy of the city of Santiago and other towns in the region, said Reynoso.

The train would travel 126km with a maximum speed of 220 and 250km per hour.

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- The Minister of Education, Melanio Paredes said that next January, the Department will provide laptops to all school principals at the national level to achieve better communication, and make the Dominican education system more effective.

According to information disclosed by Mr. Paredes, the laptops will be equipped with video, data, audio and telephony, which is why they will be in constant communication with the directors of public schools in the country, in order to respond quickly and effectively to no matter what problem may come up.

The Minister assured that the supervision and communication were vital, if one wishes to correct the defects of the Dominican education system.

Melanio Paredes has disclosed this information at the central exhibition of the third forum of the Decennial Plan for Education, 2008-2018.
Mr. Paredes also spoke of the investment made by the provincial education Espaillat, La Vega and Santiago, which amounts to 827 398 418 pesos.

He added that the Minister of Education currently conducts researches in the province of Santiago, for an amount exceeding the 251 million pesos. Professors of the provinces of La Vega, Espaillat and Santiago participated in the ceremony which took place Thursday in the Grand Theater of Cibao, in Santiago.

The formal opening of the activity was performed by Monsignor Agripino Núñez Collado, who called the entire educational community and society to support the Ten Year Plan to achieve better Education, and thus a better country.

Ms. Bisonó called upon all the inhabitants of Santiago and neighboring communities to participate in this celebration to welcome her as a daughter of the town.

She said that the triumph of Martha was the pride of all Dominicans and especially the inhabitants of Santiago.

The Government representative stressed the great support of the Dominican people and all countries of Latin America, which has enabled Martha Heredia to win the contest.

We are asking young people to keep away from vices, and social anti-values, so they can get closer to good and discover the talent that exists in their interior.

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago.- Sales started to reactivate in this municipality and in other provinces of the region, after the Government and many private companies gave salary number thirteen to their employees.

In the principal commercial arteries of the historical center of the city of Santiago, a great quantity of people are being observed buying different articles, which are very demanded for this time of the year.

Among the articles most sold in this season we can find: footwear, portfolios and other clothing, many of which are obtained in department stores.

The president of the Owners’ of Shops of the Historical Center of Santiago Association (ASOTISA), Carlos Lora, said that many businesses make discounts with the intention of attracting more clients.

This year the shops have good prices, there is a lot of cheap merchandise and people are taking advantage of the offers, he expressed.

In La Calle del Sol (Sun’s Street) and other streets of the city the street sellers have installed numerous sheds, where they offer to the public great variety of Christmas fruits, as apples, grapes, pears, raisins among others.
