BREAKING NEWS: Santiago. - The Office of the Prosecutor of Environment, announced that in the next days, the vehicles whose emanate an excessive quantity of polluting gas will be seized.

The announcement was made by the magistrate Jacinto Mejia, who said that the measure had been taken following pollution reigning on the town of Santiago, fruit of the great quantity of vehicles which contaminate the atmosphere.

We gave a deadline so that the people, whose vehicles smoke too much, could correct the situation, but those who did not take this into account will have their vehicles seized expressed Mejia.

In another order, the Prosecutor of Environment of the city said that they are continuing to fight against the extraction of materials, like against the illegal precious wood cut.

New premises for the Secretariat of Youth

A better space

BREAKING NEWS: Santiago. - The governor Jose Izquierdo delivered equipped and renovated the new premises which will shelter the Secretariat of Youth, directed in the province by Otto Vásquez.

The governor Jose Izquierdo expressed that with the inauguration of this new place, one guaranteed to have a better space so that the young people can come to ask for services in a completely comfortable atmosphere.

We make today the handing-over of a beautiful office completely renovated and of great importance for the young people so that they can be welcomed in a comfortable atmosphere and a pleasant space expressed the secretary of Youth Franklin Rodriguez.

On his side Otto Vásquez, secretary of Youth of the head office of Santiago and who will be working in the new offices, said to be satisfied of the new spaces of the under-secretary’s department of this city and he took the opportunity to underline all the projects which are carried out within the Secretariat.

The new offices will be located on the ninth floor of the public offices President Antonio Guzmán Fernández (Huacalito).

The under-secretaries of Youth, Felix Michel and Adriano Abreu Sued, the under-secretary of Sports, Guillermo Otenwarder as other civils servant of the province and the area were present during this activity.

The Leader inaugurates the new buildings of INFOTEP

An investment of 58.6 million pesos

BREAKING NEWS: SANTIAGO. - President Leonel Fernández put in service in this province a new building of classrooms and workshops built in the Northern Regional Management of the National Institute of Training of Professional Technicians (INFOTEP).

The building was built by the Patrimonial Funds of the Reformed Companies of State (FONPER), organization which made an investment of 46.2 million pesos. The remaining part was brought by INFOTEP.

This institution gives the priority to investment in the training of qualified technicians, so that they can then work on the national development.

It’s acts of the third infrastructure of this type which FONPER puts at the service of the youth of Santiago.

The building bears the name of Doctor César Estrella Sadhalá, has 22 classrooms and workshops of electronics, electricity, cut and clothes industry, refrigeration, data processing, repair of computers and of medical electronic material.

The First Lady of the Republic, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, also took part in this inauguration and the speeches were made by the director of INFOTEP, Josefina Pimentel, who advanced that this infrastructure would have a great impact on the economy and the employers’ productivity of Santiago and the Northern area thanks to the vast services that it will offer.

Public works asphalt the sectors of the southern zone of Santiago

With an investment of 280 million pesos

BREAKING NEWS: Engineer Víctor Díaz Rúa began work of pavement of the Ensanche Libertada in Santiago, while he continues working in the districts of Guayabal, Palo Amarillo, Laguna Prieta, Puñal and Matanzas.

The Secretariat of Public Works holds the promises made to the residents of the communities by investing 280 million pesos in repair and asphalting of the ways of these localities.

After the visit of Engineer Víctor Díaz Rúa in Santiago, work was quickly carried out.

During the last weeks, the government made efforts to give a follow-up in the various districts and the urbanizations of the province of Santiago.

Santiago’s strategic plan

To enhance the quality of life in the province

BREAKING NEWS: The Strategic Development Council of Santiago shared its vision for the Santiago Strategic Plan 2010-2020 with Hoy newspaper. Carlos Alfredo Fondeur, president of the organization, said the objective is to enhance the quality of life in the province.

The focus is on land use, economy, governance, population and culture.

He says they still need to complete parts of the 2002-2010 plan, such as the construction of the Avenida Mirador Norte and the 33-km highway between Canabacoa and Quinigua that would solve the traffic bottleneck in the city.

Fondeur says that also pending is the construction of the central park, and the city brand project. Our idea is to sell this city as a health center, given its present already competitive offer. We also want to sell Santiago as a place for entertainment, he said, mentioning its many party and concert halls, the Cibao Stadium and its many quality restaurants.

He acknowledged that in recent years the city has experienced problems brought by demographic growth, growing unemployment, decline in private investment and the closing of free zone manufacturing plants.

He said the city needs to deal with two other serious problems: rising violence and the illegal migration of Haitians. He says Haitians tend to create slums in the areas where they install themselves. They also see as a major problem requiring urgent attention the managing of the waters of the highly polluted Yaque del Norte river.
